I keep a sticky note on my computer monitor. It says, "Tell the truth." That's my job.

 

I learned that from the late Rachel Held Evans, who told the truth bravely and sacrificially.

 

I try to follow her example, because I want you to take something away from my words. Maybe it sounds absurd coming from someone who built her career in public relations, but I believe the best way to build trust with anyone, any reader, is to be honest with the stories we tell.

Whatever they are, let them be bold. Let them be meaningful. Let them be true.
